got done with CV making
what i learnt
1) IT work-ex does not count as 50% ppl have IT work-ex. If you want to show that you have done something different, do something different.
2) for finance, it is your acad record that matters. So, if you can still come up with a lot of patents, papers etc. , please do.
3) for consulting, considering that there are only 20 jobs in the big 4 for 1 campus, be different. National archers, international chess players, pilots after engineering, helicopter training, conquering mountain peaks, all count. Show that you have taken some initiatives. Be an entrepreneur, help NGO scale new heights. Winning national level case study competitions gives you the oomph.
4) for marketing have a lot of positions of responsibility. Manage big events somehow.
5) certifications give you added advantage. CFA for example.
6) the extra I in IIITA would always hurt. keep that in mind.
7) some guys can have a CGPA of 10/10 in undergrad. how would you compete with them?
8) National football players. Well, some of the recruiters might know them. Why would recruiters want know you?
i know that these might sound like big words. They are. But then, there are bigger achievements of people whom you will meet at elite institutions. Preparing for CAT is easier compared to such accomplishments.
Now just think about this for 2 minutes. .... ' how ready are you to give the CAT?'

wow u r making me afraid..but still the 6th point is the best one :)
dude, you are from IIITA at IIM-C. and although you might not have done all those things like mountain climbing, or something. I believe that at the end of your two year course, you will come out to be a really fine manager, or prob better than the person who went to himalaya or made an NGO for animals.
If this is the condition in IIM C than what does IIM A needs,Sachin Tendulkar vishwanathan anand etc etc.
or what??
@ankit .. not awesome ... just a piece of reality that you must be ready to accept.
@nikunj .. thanks for the encouragement. i know all of us have unique characteristics in us which are worth appreciating, but realizing the same in 30 sec which is all the time that 1 CV gets by the recruiter, is much more easier if those characteristics are tangible and have been proven.
@nagendra IIM C or IIM A, that is not the question here. But yes, if you are Sachin and still want to do an MBA ( which I feel would be highly improbable) , you would be amongst the most sought after B-school student in India.
Reality bites but that is what you get to know at IIM...u have jotted down the same thing what i too am learning at B..btw then what is ur cv speaking for..preparing for what?
@reflections
nice to see you here.
right now my CV is saying a lot about my mathematical and analytical skills. But I am trying to add more value to it in the 18 months that I have ahead.
have you started preparing for the summers?
PS: your blog is quite famous. have visited in couple of times.
:O how come my blog is famous..that is news to me !!....same here..the only thing that is strong in my CV is my Awards and Achievements Section which MAY( this is bcoz u can never b sure)..bring soem fin shortlists..so studying hull book now :(..
i hope you do ...
using adjectives like 'strong' in my case would be a little too early considering the kind of batch profile here. waiting for the day when i could use it.
(suddenly, objectivity seems to have lost meaning).
Hull.Good. Decided on Fin as a choice for summers?
that too investment banking?
